Churchill Country Retreat offers guests the rare opportunity to stay in a home with deep heritage and timeless charm. Built as a country retreat from the city, it now welcomes guests to experience the same tranquillity and beauty that once drew the Churchill family to the rolling landscapes of East Sussex, situated close to the village of North Chailey, near Lewes. Today, Churchill Retreat blends history with modern comfort, providing the perfect escape for families, groups, or special gatherings. Sleeping up to 11 guests across six individually styled bedrooms, the home combines elegance and warmth. Each room carries a unique theme, with cosy window seats for quiet reading. The master suite boasts a walk-in wardrobe and a luxurious ensuite bathroom with a statement bathtub designed for relaxation. The heart of the home is a spacious country-style kitchen, fully equipped with modern appliances perfect for preparing shared meals. Expansive living areas and grounds offer space for both lively gatherings and peaceful moments, including a swimming pool, hot tub, jacuzzi spa, with plenty of room for everyone to feel at home and Free Wifi for streaming all your favourite shows on the Smart TV.

The Churchill Family had strong ties to the Sussex countryside, favouring it as a place of retreat and reflection. Situated just a short distance from North Chailey near Lewes, where he balanced family life with moments of solitude away from political pressures. The landscapes of East Sussex, with their rolling fields, woodlands, and historic villages, became settings he cherished for their tranquillity and inspiration. Staying at Churchill Country Retreat allows guests to experience the same peaceful countryside that once offered comfort and respite to the Churchill Family.

KITCHEN / LIVING AREA
This home offers spacious areas, a fully equipped kitchen with modern amenities including two AGA ovens with electric oven and hob module, kettle, toaster and microwave, plus plenty of cookware, glassware, crockery and cutlery so you can easily cook up a family meal for everybody. In addition to this, we offer complimentary tea and coffee, salt and pepper - so please help yourself. The dining table seats up to 10 guests with additional chairs available. You’ll find the sociable and light living room set up with a Smart TV, making it a lovely space for chilling out, getting together for a few drinks or catching up on the events of the day. If you prefer, you can simply relax and watch a movie on the TV or find your own quiet space in the further sitting rooms. There is a separate utility room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and vacuum for guests to use.

POOL AND OUTDOOR ENTERTAINMENT AREA

• Leading directly from the living area, you’ll find the stunning art deco-inspired pool and outdoor entertainment space, complete with comfortable loungers and a hot tub jacuzzi spa for guests to enjoy year-round. Just beyond the gated pool area is a children’s climbing frame and a large landscaped lawn – perfect for outdoor games or simply soaking up the fresh country air.
• For your convenience, we provide one pool towel per guest during your stay. Please note that plastic glassware is supplied for outdoor use, as no glass is permitted around the pool area.
• The Pool is available all year round, but can be heated between 1st June to 15th September at an additional fee of £200 per booking. If you're staying longer than 7 days, this £200 fee will be charged per week or part week thereafter. Please note that five days’ notice is required to allow the pool to heat up.

PARKING

• The property offers generous on-site parking, comfortably accommodating 4–5 vehicles.

HOT TUB JACUZZI SPA

• The hot tub jacuzzi spa is available for guest use year-round. Kindly read the instructions carefully before operating. Plastic glassware is provided for outdoor use, as no glass is permitted in or around the jacuzzi.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

• Winding staircases connect the different levels within the house, so it may be difficult to access some of the bedrooms for those with limited mobility
• Some exit doors remain permanently locked for health and safety reasons, and keys are not provided. Please look out for signage on each door for guidance.
• Partial air conditioning is available in some rooms of the home.

• There is an iron, an ironing board and a hairdryer for guests to use
• Late check-out fee - £100+VAT per half hour unless a late check-out has been agreed upon in advance
• There is a Travel Cot and a High Chair available in the house for guests to use free of charge.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our stay at Churchill Country Retreat was nothing short of magical.

The house itself is full of charm, blending history with modern luxury in the most seamless way. Each bedroom was beautifully decorated, with cosy corners perfect for quiet reading, and the master suite felt like a dream with its walk-in wardrobe and spa-like bathroom. The gardens were breathtaking — endless lawns, colourful flowers, and peaceful nooks that made every walk feel special. We loved mornings by the pool, afternoons soaking in the jacuzzi, and evenings watching the sunset with a glass of wine in hand. The children were entertained for hours in the climbing frame and open grassy spaces, which made the trip even more relaxing for the adults. The country air, the tranquillity of the surroundings, and the sheer beauty of the estate made this one of the best family getaways we’ve ever had. Churchill Country Retreat is truly an unforgettable escape, and we cannot wait to return.

House Rules – Making Your Stay (and Everyone Else’s) Enjoyable

We want you to have a brilliant stay with us! To help make that happen – and out of respect for our neighbours and the property – we kindly ask that you follow these simple house rules:

• Smoking or vaping isn't allowed indoors. If you’d like to smoke, please use the outdoor patios and kindly dispose of any cigarette ends or related debris responsibly.
• Noise: To keep things peaceful for our neighbours, please keep noise to a minimum between 10 pm and 8 am. That means no loud music or parties during these hours. We’re not the anti-fun police – we want you to have a great time – we just ask for a bit of consideration so everyone can enjoy their evening (and a good night’s sleep!). Please note: If there’s a call-out due to excessive noise, the cost will be deducted from your deposit.
• Pets - We’re delighted to welcome dogs to our home. A £95 cleaning fee per furry friend applies per stay, maximum 2 pets allowed. To ensure a comfortable and safe stay for all guests (two- and four-legged), kindly follow these guidelines: A maximum of 2 dogs unless prior permission has been granted. Dogs are not permitted on beds or furniture to keep the home clean for everyone. For health and hygiene reasons, dogs are not allowed in the pool or hot tub. Only housetrained dogs are accepted (no puppies). Dogs must not be left unattended in the house or garden. Please clean up after your pets. The estate has horses in fenced stables and fields. Ensure dogs do not approach or disturb them. We kindly ask that all owners respect these rules so everyone can enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside.
• Check-Out Time - Check-out is by 11 am. We kindly ask that you leave on time so we can get everything ready for the next guests. Late check-outs may incur a £100+vat per hour fee.
• Before You Leave - Before heading off, we’d appreciate it if you could: Do any washing up, Bag up your rubbish and place it in the appropriate bins, Return keys to the key safe, Switch off all lights, Make sure all windows are closed, Turn down the heating (especially during the winter months) Not only does this help us prepare for the next guests, but it also helps us do our bit for the environment by saving energy and reducing waste. Every little bit counts – thank you!
• Age Policy: The lead guest must be 21 or over. Unfortunately, we’re unable to accept bookings from groups where the majority of guests are under this age. If you’re unsure, just get in touch with us before booking.
• A Quick Note on Deposits: If any house rules aren’t followed, we may need to make deductions from your deposit to cover additional cleaning or damages. We hope that’s never necessary!
• Please ensure you read your check-in email for further property support.
• No Events/Parties/Stag Parties Allowed
